Community Tees Off for Inaugural Savannah Quarters Classic

SAVANNAH, GA (April 20, 2008) – Mick O’Brien, Chief Operating Officer, Medallist, USA hosted the inaugural Quarters Classic golf tournament on April 20 at Savannah Quarters Country Club. Twelve local companies helped sponsor this tournament raising proceeds totaling over $3,000 to benefit The First Tee of Savannah. Charlie Sifford, the first PGA African-American golfer and a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, played in the tournament along with close to 100 members of Savannah Quarters Country Club and community leaders. 1968 Masters Champion Bob Goalby attended the tournament offering golf tips and visiting with golfers.

 

The Quarters Classic will become an annual event beginning with this year’s inaugural tournament. This event highlights the significant role that Savannah Quarters Country Club plays in the low country’s golf

 

tradition. O’Brien noted the importance of Medallist and Savannah Quarters Country Club contributing to the community by supporting The First Tee.

Greg Norman designed the signature golf course at Savannah Quarters Country Club. He developed the course as a testament to beauty, grace, and challenge. Golfers play from a selection of five tee placements to best suit their abilities. In the Quarters Classic, men played from the member tees and women played from the forward tees.

 

With The First Tee of Savannah, youth of all backgrounds develop life-enhancing values such as confidence, perseverance, and judgment through golf and character education. The World Golf Foundation created The First Tee in November of 1997 as a way to bring golf to children that otherwise would not be exposed to the game and its positive values. Savannah Quarters and Savannah Quarters Country Club partner with The First Tee throughout the year to support programs and provide opportunities that benefit local youth.
